Create your first agent
The nine-step composer, and what you can safely skip.
The composer walks nine steps. Only one thing is actually required — a name — so you can move fast and attach the rest later from the Library.
Scan your website first if you can. The composer builds a much better draft from a site it has read. See Scan your website.
Open it#
From Agents, press New agent. If you cannot see that button, you do not have permission to create agents — ask an owner, admin or agent designer.
The nine steps#
1. Describe#
Pick the job first: Sales Agent (Seller — sells on your site) or Support Agent (Helper — resolves on your screen). Unsure? See Which agent do you need?.
The rest of the form appears once you choose. Pick Which business is this agent for? — a site you have scanned — then describe what the agent should do in plain language. Be specific; the draft is only as good as this sentence. Agent name is optional here; we suggest one.
Then press either:
- Draft my agent with AI — writes the name, the summary, the system prompt and a suggested workflow from your description and what the scan learned.
- Skip — I'll set it up manually — no AI call, straight to step 2.
2. Plan#
Review what was drafted. The line above tells you whether a model or a fallback template wrote it. Agent name is required. Product is read-only — it follows the job you picked. System prompt / role is the core of the agent's behaviour and becomes its instructions on every call; edit it freely.
3. Knowledge#
Attach the knowledge bases this agent may draw on. The agent's answers are grounded only in what you attach. You can create one right here, or do it later on Library · Knowledge. See Add knowledge.
4. Connections#
Attach the integrations this agent may act through — a ticketing system, Slack, a webhook, an MCP server. See Connect your tools.
5. Workflows#
Optional. Describe a flow in plain language and press Build it for me, or pick a ready-made one. If a step needs a connection you have not set up, the composer says so and lets you continue — the step simply waits until you connect it.
6. Guardrails#
Attach a policy, or create the suggested one. See Set guardrails.
7. Face, or Capabilities#
This step differs by product:
- Sales Agent — Face. Pick the face it wears on calls, or skip; it runs voice-only until you choose one. See Give a Sales Agent a face.
- Support Agent — Capabilities. What it may do in the user's session. Speak, chat, read the app screen and accept file uploads are on by default; full screen-share is off, because it is a heavier permission to ask for.
8. Voice#
Choose how it sounds. Preview each voice before you pick. Set the Tone and the Greeting — the first line the visitor hears.
Sales Agents get three extra controls: Objective (what the conversation is for), Persuasiveness and Proactivity. These become instructions on every call. See Choose or clone a voice.
9. Review and create#
Check the summary and press Create agent (draft).
What happens next#
The agent is created as a draft — unpublished — and you land on its Agent & persona page. An unpublished agent is invisible to every visitor, so you can configure, attach and preview it safely. Publishing is a separate, deliberate step. See Go live, pause, unpublish.
